|
アーサー・シュワルツは、コロンビア大学で文学の修士課程を修め、NYUで法律の勉強をしていました。しかし、それ以外の時間はポピュラー・ソングを書くことに没頭していました。そんな折、まだ無名だったローレンツ・ハートに、音楽に専念するために法律を放棄したらどうかと勧められました。
1928年にハワード･ディーツと組んでレビューのための曲[I Guess I'll Have To Change My Plan]を発表しました。それが彼の最初のヒットとなり、ミュージカル、ナンバーで大成功をおさめました。代表作品はミュージカル・ナンバーThe
Bandwagon（1931）やスタンダード曲にもなったAlone Together, You and the Night and the Music,
Love is a Dancing Thing.があげられます。

ハワード･ディーツは、1920〜1960年にかけてアメリカンポップやブロドウェーの作詞家として活動しました。作曲家アーサー・シュワルツと組んだブロードウェー作品は有名です。最も成功を修めた作品にはThe
Little Show (1929), Three's a Crowd (1930),
At Home Abroad (1935)があげられます。
ディーツは、1914年にコロンビア大学へ進み、そこには一歳年上のオスカー･ハマーシュタイン二世とロレンツ･ハートがいて、将来のミュージカル界を背負う三大作詞が同じ大学で出会っていました。
ディーツは1924年にMGMの広報担当部長になり、ラジオとテレビの仕事で多忙を極め、1940年には副社長就任します。しかし、その多忙な期間に多くの作品を残しました。
