ヴァーノン・デューク(1903-1969) |
1903年生まれのロシア人で本名をVladimir Dukelsky といい、革命後コンスタンチノープルを経て1921年にニューヨークに定住。アメリカでジプシーヴァイオリンの伴奏や、マジックショウのための音楽を書いていた所を、ガーシュインに見出されDukelskyからヴァーノン・デュークへの名前を米国風に改名した。1923年にパリからロンドンへ移ってバレエ音楽やミュージカルを作曲。1929年に再びアメリカへ戻り、ガリック・ゲイエティーズを皮切りにブロードウェーミュージカル作曲する。1932年の「ウォーク・ア・リトル・ファスター」から、「4月のパリ」が大ヒットした。
