1945年5月8日ペンシルヴァニア州アレンタウン生まれ。
3歳からピアノを習い, 7歳でコンサートをもち、以後プロの道を歩むという早熟ぶりを示した. 62年奨学生としてバークリー音楽院に学ぶ。65年にジャズ・メッセンジャーズ、66年にはチャールス・ロイド・カルテットに参加。70年～71年にマイルス・デイヴィスのグル-プに参加するが、エレクトリック・マイルスとは肌が合わず脱退。この期間中にECMレコードでアコースティック・ピアノによるソロ・アルバムを録音。ストイックなスタンスでアコースティック・サウンドを追求するジャズ・ピアノの詩人。クラシック・ファンからの支持も根強い。

ザ・ケルン・コンサート―for piano	・ケルンコンサートの楽譜ということで興味のある方の期待度は高いと思いますが、実際の曲に対する正確さは残念ながら決して高いとは言えません。本の冒頭にキースジャレットによる「まえがき」が各国語で載っていますが、ここから、ケルンコンサートの楽譜に対するニーズの総合的な意味での大きさや、おそらく自らが監修することになり、それに対してどのようなスタンスで関わるべきか、などの苦悩をうかがうことができます。そしてその結論はまえがきの最後の段落に記されています。まとめますと、この商品は「ケルンコンサートの楽譜」というよりは「キースジャレット関連のグッズ」として捉えることをおすすめします。 amazonレビューより
