Ahmad Jamal アーマッド・ジャマル
1930年もしくは1932年7月2日、米国ペンシルバニア州ピッツバーグに生まれる。本名はフリッツ・ジョーンズ。ジャズ・ピアニスト。
ハイスクール時代にプロとして活動を開始。マイルス・デイビスに影響を与え、『アマッド・ブルース』という曲を進呈された有名な逸話がある。また、キース・ジャレットが絶賛したと言われるアーマッド・ジャマルのピアノ・スタイルは、シンプルな単音を特徴とする独特の雰囲気を持つ。53年にマイルス・デイビスのバンドに誘われるが、「シカゴを離れたくない」という理由で断る。
58年に録音した『バット・ノット・フォー・ミー』が話題となり、カデット、アーゴなどに多くの作品を残す。1994年の「アメリカン・ジャズ・マスター賞」の受賞。聴き込むほどに味わいのあるピアニスト。
